Idea 003
The Myth of Later
The belief that deferred work is reduced work. Deferral changes the owner, the form, and the price of an obligation — not its existence.

Why it matters
Deferral is treated as a decision to spend less. It is more accurately a decision to spend differently: later, in a different currency, and usually by someone else.
The concept is useful because it makes the cost of postponement legible at the moment of postponement, which is the only moment at which the trade is still open. Once the work has changed form — into a standing procedure, a recurring visit, a piece of knowledge held in people — it stops being visible as deferred work at all.
